(Danxia translates to rosy cloud, which seems appropriate.) The moutains eye-popping rainbow colors are the result of different colors of sandstone being pressed into distinct layers over several million years. The entire region was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010, one of 40 World Heritage sites scattered throughout the country.
