Heroes Day 6 - Amy Johnson the pioneer British aviator; less well known than Amelia Earhart. An economics graduate, she took up flying as a hobby and in 1930, a year after gaining her licence, she became the fist woman to fly solo to Australia from UK. Other records followed and she ferried aircraft during the Second World War and died in 1941 when her aircraft went off course in poor weather and ran out of fuel. She ditched in the Thames Estuary and despite unsuccessful attempts to rescue her she dies and her body was never found
