Hes gonna hit, hes gonna hit, hes gonna hit us... Dramatic footage shows the moment brave police officers prevented a serious collision on the M6 toll after a car travelled the wrong way on the northbound carriageway towards oncoming traffic on Monday night. Two force traffic officers risked a head-on collision, deliberately blocking the path of the Honda Jazz as it travelled south in the outside lane near to the junction with the A38 approaching three lanes of traffic which had already brought to a standstill just before 10pm. The footage shows the two West Midlands Police PCs spotting the Honda coming towards them at speed and how they positioned their vehicle to prevent it reaching the oncoming traffic and force it into the central reservation. It also conveys the danger they faced and their apprehension as the vehicle approached. The 77-year-old driver, who has dementia, was not injured during his ordeal and, after being checked over by paramedics, was taken home to his family. Insp Mark Watkins, of the CMPG, said: “This was an extremely unusual situation where the driver of the car had shown no intention to stop travelling in the wrong direction. “Traffic officers bravely took the decision to engineer a collision with the vehicle and I am sure that their selfless actions have prevented serious injury or worse to the driver and other motorists on the road. “We were relieved that we could bring this situation to a safe conclusion and return the man home safe and well to his family.” youtube/watch?v=ug9BV2v9994&feature=youtu.be
