Hey Everyone, Good Work Today Again! As there has been some - TopicsExpress

Hey Everyone, Good Work Today Again! As there has been some concern regarding our work around the Soldier Pond I have written a little something :) Firstly, I was wondering if someone could enlighten me as to the name of the species that everyone is overly concerned about around the Soldier Pond - is it the Willow Emerald Damselfly (Lestes viridis) or the Small Emerald? Also, Ive uploaded the UEA Conservation Management Plan where the details of the Soldier Pond are detailed, with what lecturers that are involved with the plan (as Ive had comments about some lecturers being against the management techniques?). The plan was written by Dr.Iain Barr as a contributing author (a lecturer I personally hold a lot of respect for regarding his knowledge). The plan also sought external consultation (I.e. CEEC, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, RSPB etc). The Soldier Pond itself doesnt have any specific conservation designation status, despite being highlighted as a priority area alongside some Lepidopetra - however the management techniques that have been used this year comply with what has been written in the plan. Perhaps someone could let me know what the concerns are - I would rather read some science and talk to Estates and experts than hear negative comments without any constructive criticism :) Ultimately the campus conservation plan needs to be reviewed in 2015 and if people feel that there could be better management plans put in place - then perhaps now is the time for people to contact the right people with their thoughts?
