Hey Friends - I would so desire for you all to pray about a true need in our local community, approximately a 10-15 drive from where most of us live. "Church under a Bridge" is a local church that meets every saturday morning at 9am and every tuesday evening at 6pm.under a large bridge dowtown. There is a young man,(he will scold me if mention his name) who left a full time paying pastorship- got a job for the hwy department working 40 hours a week - in order to pastor people on the streets. He is a husband and father of 3 children. He and his wife give of their time freely to minister to their physical needs as well as pastor them. They receive no monetary funds for this. When I use the word "Pastor" here, I mean, this dude goes to the tents or some cardboard arrangement they have made and sprays for bugs and crawling creatures, gathers and distributes food, clothing, tents, bedding, water, etc. from anyone who will give and taking from his own home whatever they need. He also preaches and teaches every service. He is called by our local police if there is a disturbance and meets them there. He oversees the camps, as well as anyone who attends our services. One Saturday morning as I was leaving our meeting, I was dropping off two of our folks at a soup kitchen. I know them well. One asked could I stop at his "place" right across the street and drop off a gallon of water he had been given. I said sure I will meet you at the end of the drive. When I stopped my suv at the end of the drive, I saw him coming out of the bushes where a path had been made. He lives in a tent. He was so thankful for the gallon of water. My heart almost stopped when I saw him coming out of those bushes. That is when it hit me, "Oh my goodness, these folks are right across the street. i had been going to services there for almost two months. I had seen photos of the "home place" for these folks. Seeing it in person, made me hit my knees and give thanks for my abundance as well as " we have to help these folks." Could you pray and see what God would have you donate? I love missions and I give to missions. However, sometimes we need to look in our own backyard and see what need we could meet.
