Hey Guys- Happy Monday!! I have something for you guys to think about as you start this week…. A friend of mine is president of a manufacturing business with annual sales in the hundreds of millions of dollars. But the company wasnt always that size. When he took it over several years ago, it was about one-sixteenth of the size it is now. Even so, it was still a substantial business with profits into the millions. All he really had to do in order to be a success was to keep from screwing it up. Not only did he not screw things up, my friend put the companys earnings on steroids. Growth and profits exploded. One day I asked him how he did it. He said, When I first took over, I sold off 80% of the company at big losses. I was shocked. How can a guy gut a profitable company by giving most of it away at a big loss, and then expect it to explode into growth? My friend went on. I saw the life of the company was really in about 20% of the overall activity. So I kept that 20% and sold off the rest of the operations and assets, sometimes at pennies on the dollar - and I did it quickly. I wanted to keep the superfluous stuff from draining focus, energy, resources and attention away from the good things we had going. And thats what led to our eventual success. My friend is a shining example of a basic principle for successful leadership: DÉJA VU LEADERS DO NOT ALLOW NEGATIVE THINGS TO TAKE UP SPACE IN THEIR LIVES. If they cant fix bad stuff, they get rid of it. Sometimes quickly and sometimes through a process, but if a tooth is infected, they yank it out. They get rid of the negative energy. So, my challenge for you guys this Monday is… what is infected that needs to be taken out?! Also, in what areas of your life are you really thriving and need to clear space to allow that to grow?!
