Hey, Its been an intense summer for Amanda and I. Apologies for so long between posts. Amandas summer has been spent primarily taking care of Marek. Secondary priorities included admin for Robert Service Campground and, of course taking care of the other kids. Luckily for us our Niece and Nephew and sister and brother in law moves in to help out. Thanks guys we love you! Other friends and family have also contributed in ways that have made a real difference. Thanks so much!! My summer was the busiest summer to date. Between mushroom pickers, anglers, and hunters, I have had eight days I havent flown. I am currently down in Vancouver hanging out with Amanda and the kids. Its the first time weve had substantial time together for six months. We are staying at the new Ronald McDonald house between clinic visits. The facilities here at Ronald McDonald are amazing! There is a game room, a lego room, a video game room, and a huge slide in the main foyer kids can use in lieu of the stairs. The lifestyle here is communal. There are four houses: Beach, Mountain, Forest, and River. Each place houses people with similar infirmities. There are people here from all over Canada. Each person has their own story. We have made friends with a few people in similar circumstances as our own. Although we are bummed Marek is sick we cant help but feel grateful for the facilities and people here. Mareks treatment has gone as expected. So far he is responding typically. The treatment itself is very counter-intuitive as a parent. Basically you feed your kid poison to kill off all his white blood cells. You then spend the rest of your time worrying that your child will contract some sort of infection due to their almost non-existent immune system. Sound crazy? Dial back the clock thirty years to when Mareks system was treated with radiation and the question was when he would have long term side affects not if. Hardest part about our situation is not knowing for sure how things will turn out. Warmest regards for the colder part of the year!! Looking forward to our next post. Keep well.
