Hey! I’m Conor Marshall, a Games Design and Production student, - TopicsExpress

Hey! I’m Conor Marshall, a Games Design and Production student, and I want to be part of your student association team as an executive officer. Now, you may wonder why that would affect you in any way, and it’s a fair question. Humour me. If any of the three following points matter to you, you might have a vested interest in lending me your vote. Policy one; furthering our reputation as a quality university by developing stronger links to our industries and trades. By inviting businesses, respected members of our fields and academics in to talk to our students, we create a big waves for our university. In line with this, hosting events and conferences such as Dare To Be Digital and Games in Scotland does incredible stuff for our profile as a centre of education, but we could be doing more. We need to be renowned universally for producing outstanding graduates and that means we need to be louder, prouder and more involved. On to policy two; timetabling and planning. It has come to my attention that across the disciplines there seems to be a problem with labs/tutorials/lectorials being earlier in the week than the lectures/seminars where you are taught vital information for the class you’ve already had. Besides being counterintuitive, it also highlights a major issue with basic timetabling/planning within the faculty. It’s in the best interests of our learning that this is sorted, and it is easily sorted with some pressure. And finally, policy three; consolidating all of the universities online services to one point of contact for the student. Currently, communication/feedback from lecturers and grades are being posted on a number of different services blackboard, intranet, mail 365 and oasis. Trying to figure out what’s happening can be an intimidating chore, with a lot of logging in. I would campaign to simplify and streamline the end user experience for students. One point of contact. Simple, easy and no fuss. I appreciate you taking the time to read this. Coming from a management background I have no issue dealing with confrontation or being assertive and that will give me the edge to tackle these points. The dream? Industry leading, organised and convenient. Conor
