Hey MPC! I just wanted to let you know that our little group grew - TopicsExpress

Hey MPC! I just wanted to let you know that our little group grew to over 200 members this month! Whew, when I started this group back in 2012 (with 6 other friends), I never imagined it would turn into this lovely community of photographers! As we have gotten larger, Ive tried to keep up with the growing needs of our group, and I hope Ive done ok by you. Since I was strolling down memory lane, I noticed a few things I wanted to share with you all, so if you would please indulge me...take a minute to review a little bit about our group. You all inspire me and I am blessed to call you friends: 1. We are here to encourage each other to bust out our cameras (in whatever form that may take) and get a shot every day. Its fun to dig into the archives when we see a prompt we know we have the perfect shot for, but thats not really the point. What can you see today, in your car/office/home/school that COULD work for the prompt? It stretches your eye and your mind, right? Thats GOOD! 2. We are a community, not a competition! I am so proud of the comments I so often see here giving compliments where they are due, asking for help when needed, and NEVER a snipe or snark like is so often seen elsewhere. This is not a Christian group, but I am a Christian person and I hope this group reflects my belief that a Christian reflects the love of Christ to all, always. Thanks for helping me with that. You all are wonderful to each other and to the newbies who join us. 3. This is a place to ask questions and never worry that it is dumb or inappropriate. If we dont know, well happily point you to someone who does. I am NOT an expert photographer. I started the group for the same reason yall joined it...to be stretched to shoot more often and shoot better. Im hoping its working... 4. The courtesies Ive set out in the Group Description really arent optional. There are very few, but they need to be remembered. A biggie is to only post photos that YOU have taken. I have no interest in being part of an ownership or copyright violation dispute. Dont do it. Nuf said. But an important part of the group is the concept of post a pic, comment on a pic. Please take time to thoughtfully comment on the photos that you see. We all get a bit lazy (and I am SOOOO included in that) and just throw a great shot at images. But thoughtful compliments go a long way. 5. If you want constructive criticism, in this group, youre gonna have to ask for it. Because this group is all about encouragement, and we have lots of different levels of photographers here, we would never want to discourage someone with a you could do better post...unless that is what they want. So feel free to put in your discription, how could I _____? and Im sure youll get great feedback. 6. A really big important thought came through our thread recently, and that is that we dont ever use each others photos without getting permission first and giving attribution to the photographer when you do use it. We want to be extraordinarily careful that we are respectful of each other in this group, and some of us sell our photos and earn income from them. So ask first, use second. Along that same line, if you post the best photo ever, be smart and watermark it. I cannot protect your images once they are posted online, if you do not have protections built in. So when in doubt, watermark! 7. Finally, thanks for playing along. Most of you know that I dont create the monthly prompt list. It comes from Fat Mum Slim in Australia who originated the idea of the Daily Photo Challenge. So I hope you forgive me when you get a prompt you just dont like (doesnt anybody but me HATE the prompts like 4:00, 5:00, etc?!) But, I dont have the time to create from scratch and if it aint broke, dont fix it, so thanks for being accommodating on the themes and lists.
