Hey, OSU teachers! There are any number reasons why students legal names may not match their names on our rosters or on Carmen, but particularly important for some trans students and some international students. Its actually pretty easy for students to change their names on our systems - if you dont know how they can do it, I have info below. I usually email this to my class before classes start and/or post it on Carmen. Hope this is helpful for any of you interested! There are any number of reasons that the name that appears on my class roster or on Carmen is not the name that a student uses in daily interactions. If you would like to change this (in ALL of your Carmen classes and/or in Buckeyelink for ALL professors), here is how you do that: There are two ways that students can change how their name appears at OSU. Buckeyelink/Class rosters In this version of changing, your name will be changed on class rosters and in Buckeyelink - the name that you add will appear in parenthesis and with your legal first name still attached and therefore marked as a nickname, so this is obviously your call. You can use the Nickname feature in the my.osu.edu site - in that area, go to manage my OSU Identity and add your preferred name as a nickname. Carmen The Carmen option is similar. When you log into Carmen, look in the upper right hand corner and youll see the down arrow next to your legal name. Click that arrow and select profile. In there, you can add their preferred name as a nickname, which will make it so that your first name will show up as the nickname (and the legal name will not be visible to any user). This process takes longer to update - if you dont see your preferred name attached to your profile within a couple of days, you can call tech support to get it pushed forward by calling 614-468-4357.
