Hey Y’all! This announcement has been a long time coming, and today finally felt like the right time. On Thursday, I will be moving to Chicago to start my journey through Seminary to become a Lutheran Pastor. I imagine this will come as a shock to some of you, and for others, it will be no surprise at all. I have felt called to do this since I was a Junior in High School, but it wasn’t until I was a Junior in College that I realized that it was something that I actually wanted to do. In fact, no other job even comes close to matching my passions in life. I’ve put off telling everyone for two reasons. 1. I wanted to make absolutely sure, and I didn’t have anything to tell until everything was finalized. 2. I didn’t want people to feel like they had to act differently around me. In fact, I pretty much hate it when people do. I love all my friends and they can believe whatever they want to believe. If I never told you, don’t be insulted, it’s just a hard thing to tell someone when you might not be sure yourself, or you don’t know how they will react. The truth is: nothing has changed. I am still the same person I was when you knew me. All of the personality traits are the same (goofiness, nerdy-ness, clumsiness…) and the beliefs I hold now are the same beliefs I’ve always held. I still care about you for the same reasons I did then, and that’s never going to change. I love people because of who they are, not because of what they do/believe. I had always believed Pastors had to be (or pretend to be) Perfect, and I can’t do that. Instead, I will be Evan… and all that entails. :) And to answer the most common question: Yes, I can get married. :D So, thank you all for being such wonderful friends to me over the years! Whether I was snotty, depressed, obnoxious, or just too sassy for my own good... you have stuck with me, and I never would’ve gotten to this point without you! These next four years are likely to be some of the best and most challenging of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited to finally be taking the next step. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that God has put some amazing friends and family in my life to make it easier! If you’re ever in Hyde Park/Chicago come visit me at LSTC (Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago)! :D Lastly, a special shout out any of my friends who have helped me figure this out over the years, especially to the pastors who helped shape who I am. :) Tim Brown Reginald Hansome Pat Siegler Jenn Collins and of course, though not a Pastor: Abbey Eileen
