Hey all, Last year RISE in affiliation with the IIRON Student Network, worked on a statewide campaign against Hydraulic Fracturing, otherwise known as fracking. We were able to get over 300,000 public comments against fracking and get Governor Quinn to place a temporary ban on fracking, meaning that no fracking corporations would be allowed to start work unless they can assure that their practice would generate as little harm possible. This demonstrated the strength collective student power has on the fossil fuel industry. We as students understand the need for our state to move to renewable energy resources that dont contribute to climate change for short term profits.
