Hey all you guys that finished, and those that did not finish - TopicsExpress

Hey all you guys that finished, and those that did not finish including myself - a very hearty congratulations, the first time roofers - awesome - Calvin Crick Matt, Natasha, Karel Potgieter, Quinton Scott Ralph, Rich Burnett Gary, Marco a huge effort with Natasha or was it the opposite way round :); Andrew Stead, Rui Alves, Warren Barwell, Warren StrongDwayne Kleynhans Andrew Kloppers - our gold riders - Glen Croeser , Brian Mc Millan all the crew, the wives and partners - the sponsors and the cooks at the DSPs - Brett Sproson Mike Varrie ; Debs for looking after me, Dee, Simone, Annie Heidie, Michele Rugani, Carol, Gerry Nel , Latchelo and Thadiso at the Lodge and to Puleng and Brian and ....shit just everyone...too many to mention...and a huge hearty cheers to the unsung heroes of the roof I salute you all ! Again to the Sponsors a huge thank you!! The support on the route Steve and Crew, Carl and crew for the amazing pics, Chris lodge and crew; Pete Bartlet and Crew.. This was the first roof where I think we got all right, even though we had a demarcated pit area with the gazebos up which we lost in a tornado on Wednesday night (Apologies to the spectators and members that did not have gazebos to chill under at the start finish.... shit happens) - there was not a single rider that was not looked after at a DSP and we even helped those riders that their crews did not make the DSPs in time - well oiled and well organised event by all the guys and girls - well done !!! As for my personal aspirations of attaining a podium in Bronze - the roof can be a cruel reminder of how many things have to go right to achieve even a finish - however I would not change my ride for the world, my GPS froze and thought I was on the route however ended up doing the silver route - the route was to be honest insane and the camaraderie among the silver riders absolutely awesome -, Having arrived at the silver unassisted Refuel and asking for my container to be told I was at the silver refuel was a monumental blow; thanks to the fellow rider who gave me the rest of his fuel - however decided to then do the silver loop and see if I could attain a finish in Silver - hooked up with Rui Alves and we rode together up Flying Shepperd - to think we got to the top and we were greeted with another extremely hard section to get to the top and with time running out we decided to try make it out over the other side of the mountain - Rui and I rode out - I thought Vasbyt was difficult in the army ... Rui thanks for the encouragement and the partnership for us to get out - we picked up on the bronze route that I was supposed to be on and made it back to the DSP - arriving back at the lodge at 21h30 odd and 13 nearly 14 hours in the saddle was an insane effort - again would not change for the world, the experience riding with you Rui was an experience never to be forgotten, and that is what riding is about the friends you have and the friends you make in this truly wonderful sport ! Good Bye Roof 2014 role on Roof 2015
