Hey baby boomers remember when the 1976 Academy Award winning film “Network” was considered pure satire? I just saw it again today on Turner cable. Now it is scary stuff. Especially if you work or have worked in the media. I am thinking here of Fox News. Remember, Im as mad as hell, and Im not going to take this anymore! -- Howard Beale The New York Times, called the film outrageous ... brilliantly, cruelly funny, a topical American comedy that confirms Paddy Chayefskys position as a major new American satirist and a film whose wickedly distorted views of the way television looks, sounds, and, indeed, is, are the satirists cardiogram of the hidden heart, not just of television but also of the society that supports it and is, in turn, supported. The film won four Academy Awards, in the categories of Best Actor to Peter Finch and Best Actress to Faye Dunaway. With slightly more than five minutes on screen, Best Supporting Actress went to Beatrice Straight and Best Original Screenplay to Paddy Chayefsky. The film ends with the narrator stating: This was the story of Howard Beale, the first known instance of a man who was killed because he had lousy ratings. youtu.be/NKkRDMil0bw en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_%28film%29
