Hey car makers!!! Yeah, you. The BIG companies who build cars that are bloated with technology. You know, the blind spot warnings, traction control, Pandora compatibility...all that crazy crap. STOP IT!!!! Youre making drivers less aware of their surroundings. Make vehicles you actually have to drive and make you pay attention to your surroundings, instead of changing the DVD for your offspring that cant take the time to appreciate their surroundings because YOU didnt discipline them enough to be quiet when you are driving, or the simple fact that movies and cartoons are their entire life....but Im not going there. Driving a car used to be an event. It didnt matter if you were going to the grocery store or on a cross-country road trip. There was preparation, anticipation, planning, and awareness. Now, it seems, you just grab your stuff, hop in a 2+ ton mass of metal, and screw everyone else, and screw the fact that you have a tire that needs air, or your oil is low (let alone know what your oil pressure is running or how your alternator is charging your battery...) I would wager that 80% - 90% of non car enthusiast drivers actually know how to read a gauge these days and know what those numbers mean. They want to hit a button to enter the car, hit a button to start the car, and hit another button to tell them where they are going. If you dont know what your car is doing, how in the world do you know that you can actually make it to your destination? People used to have a relationship with their vehicles. They spoke to each other. It seems like if a headlight goes out, its time for another car. **rant over**
