Hey everyone, I noticed some common issue for Facebook users and thought to give it a go at clearing some of the fog. Once you open an account and accept the terms of use, what happens from then on is this: 1. You can control what you post and what information you want to share with Facebook. 2. Facebook has the rights to use that information. Posting on your status a legal-sounding text doesnt count as a valid legal document. the legal document was the part where you accepted the terms of use. The rights you give Facebook about your content are a non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any content you post. Facebook claims that this license ends when you delete your content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it. So although Facebook doesnt own your content, they have the rights to use it, because you have given them the rights, unless you have the settings on your profile set to only friends, or only me - anyway If you dislike the idea of some corporation using you as information-cattle, then i guess you have to avoid sharing anything personal. or to stop using free services like Gmail or Facebook altogether and find a paid alternative that gives you full control, because you are paying. (y) :)
