Hey everyone! In case you didnt know the One Act Play Festival Auditions are tomorrow at UH at 7pm in the theatre lobby, and I will be directing one of the plays this year. So, please, come and audition! There is NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Please come drop by and participate in the fun. I will be directing a play called Busu also known as The Delicious Poison in english. It is a traditional Japanese play, but I will be retelling it in a modern and fun way! There will also be two other plays featured as well. Here is the info from all the plays together, as well as the Lava Shoot ad for it: Heres the info on the plays SYNOPSES & CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: POOF! Written by Lynn Nottage * Directed by Leah Wilson Synopsis: Poof! is set in the present in a kitchen where housewife, Loureen, copes with life a few moments after her abusive husband spontaneously combusts, leaving a pile of ash on the kitchen floor. Characters: Loureen. Mid 20s to mid 30s. Abused, demure housewife. Florence. Mid 20s to mid 30s. Practical friend and upstairs neighbor to Loureen. Is also in an abusive marriage. Samuel. Mid 20s to mid 30s. Loureens husband. Only voice is needed. IN PARIS YOU WILL FIND MANY BAGUETTES BUT ONLY ONE TRUE LOVE, by Michael Lew * Directed by Kawehi Kanoho-Kalahiki Synopsis: Liz is looking for true love and Lindy is looking to fix her broken heart, so they head, of course, to Paris. When Liz finds the man of her dreams, Lindy faces a dilemma: can she just let her friend be happy? Characters: 1. Liz. Twenties. Starry-eyed. 2. Lindy Twenties. A realist. 3. Mime Twenties. BUSU - Director: Michael Lovell Synopsis: Busu (meaning The Delicious Poison in English) is an ancient Japanese traditional play which addresses social conflict between the upper and lower class in a very comical way. The play features the master who has in his possession a very important and dangerous vase, which he is forced to leave with his servants to watch. The servants heed the masters warning about the dangers of opening the vase, but can they resist the temptations of seeing what is inside? The play will be told in an auteur way, with more modern elements and language used within the story. Characters: 1. Master: Head of the house, and a very rich, important man/woman. Should be portrayed as respectable, and probably a little older than the other characters. 2. Servant 1 (Taro)- The first servant. Appears to be slightly smarter than his/her counterpart, but also slightly more devious. Gender and age do not matter for this part. 3. Servant 2 (Jiro)- The second servant. Appears to be more innocent, and dumber than his co-worker. Tends to try to follow to rules, but always follows Taro-san in the end. Gender and age do not matter for this part.
