Hey everyone! SO as many of you know, Rutgers is instituting a policy to evict those without IDs from the Rutgers libraries after 10 PM, effectively removing the homeless from the libraries, which theyve come to depend on. I understand some students support of this, as a library is not necessarily the most appropriate place for them to be. But New Brunswick doesnt have an all inclusive homeless shelter (homelessshelterdirectory.org/cgi-bin/id/city.cgi?city=New%20Brunswick&state=NJ) There are two, but they are for specific cases that not everyone fits into. THIS is a pressing issue. But as the immediate problem is eviction, many students are petitioning and trying to rally to allow them to stay; theyre not being disturbing, and without a designated shelter, they have no where else to go. I A) suggest we try and do something about building a new shelter. Gather donations? Petition? Im not sure, and B) in the event that Rutgers doesnt change its policy and theyre evicted, while we stand with them Sunday night, we should arrive with blankets, coats, pre-packaged foods, etc. These are things that it would be tougher for them to attain through a broader donation organization. We should try gathering these items over the next 5 days. I might be wrong, and these might be unrealistic/bad ideas, but you are all intelligent, active people who I figured would like to do something about this as well :)
