Hey everyone. We hope that this email finds you and your families well. Its been a long journey to finally get EFI into the Chilliwack School District but after countless hours of a countless number of people the start of EFI in less then 10 months away!!! First Up is that there is an EFI Information meeting at Cheam Elementary This coming Wednesday starting at 7:00 pm. The news release can be found here: sd33.bc.ca/events/early-french-immersion-parent-meeting Main info: Wednesday December 4, 2013 at 7:00pm Cheam Elementary School (gymnasium), 9895 Banford Road, Chilliwack Note this is for Parents with children going into Kindergarten or grade 1 next year. We also have been given instruction from the school district to register you child in your home school for the 2014-2015 school year and that there will be an application available to apply your child to be registered in EFI in January. The purpose of registering your child at your home school is for 2 reasons: 1 - Guarantee your child a spot in his/her home school if they are not able to get into EFI 2 - The district must submit an estimate of pupils for the purpose of budgeting for the 2014-2015 school year. If your child is not registered in a school then those estimates may be thrown off. More on the information meeting set for Dec 4 at Cheam Elementary. This is for all those parents whos children are entering Kindergarten or grade 1 and are interested in EFI for them. Our best chance to convince the district that one kindergarten class is not sufficient to demand is to have as many parents attend as possible. Note that no registration will happen at this meeting, it is purely informational in nature, however if you are concerned that your child might not get into EFI, ill echo what I said earlier. PLEASE COME!!! It is the best chance that we have to show Superintendent Novak, the district staff and board members that we need more than one kindergarten class. They will be there to inform us, but also will be there to listen to us. Nothing speaks louder than a room full of parents!!! What Know: •Application into EFI will come out from for 2 weeks in January •There will be a Lottory to decide the spots for children into EFI •There are 24 Grade 1 and 22 Kindergarten spots open •The district (to our knowledge) has not eliminated the ideas of a K/1 split class or an additional Kindergarten class.
