Hey everyone. We were part of the Free Company known as XIII until just recently. I and other close friends have gotten tired of the way things are handled there and so we decided to make our own group. The name and official leader has not been decided yet, but its likely that Ill be heading it and we may even be called Less Than Three, or something like it. Some of you are part of that Free Company still, and unfortunately well be losing out on the housing and top-tier buffs. But itll be okay, cause well be better off with a competent leader. ^_^ I posted this letter to the forums. Its probably been deleted, but those of you who signed up on the website may be able to view it. We tried to talk to Zeo on mumble, to explain what I wrote here, plus other stuff, because we didnt want to leave on entirely bad terms. But he was pretty pissed off and wouldnt listen to us. x3.enjin/forum/m/19419408/viewthread/11933955-closing-remarks Otherwise, this is our Closing Remarks here: This is a public letter addressed to Zeo, the FC Leader, to state clearly what our issues are and why we are unhappy with the current state of affairs, rather than leaving without any explanation and letting gossip morph an already difficult subject into a real monster. Hello Zeo, This is not intended as a personal attack against you, Zeo, but as a leader about to lose members you have a right to know what’s going on, along with any members about to be separated from people they may have considered friends. We have been thinking about and planning this for several days now. Mainly, the size of the FC and how many people are simply randomly invited strangers, rather than FC members part of a community. Though it may not have been your intent, it feels like we are valued more as bodies used to generate points for company rank and buffs, rather than as individuals. This is a feeling people have had for months, and it is coming to a head. This is not splitting up due to pointless drama. We are leaving because we do not like the way this group is run. Our grievances have added up over time and we’ve discussed and thoroughly looked at our options, and we’ve come to the conclusion it is best that we leave to start our own free company from scratch. We had initially planned to move to DeeP, but we realized a large number of people would be following us, and Dergan’s group is small enough, a dozen people migrating over would put a huge strain on the way they run things. We would be doubling their membership which would wreck havoc on their group dynamics, which we do not want to put them through. We also had the idea of trying to convince you to pass leadership to someone else (mainly Talka) and you step down, but we figured you would not be OK with that idea and will react aggressively to that suggestion and only escalate things. We then realized that reforming the current setup would be more complicated than starting fresh, because there are many things we want reformed from the ground up. These include: —The number of members. Currently, everyone can invite anyone, and the number of people randomly invited is astounding. It feels like the priority here is to have as many bodies as possible in the FC to generate points, rather than having a cohesive membership in which people are valued and part of a community. We want the group as a whole to be closely-knit comrades, rather than a bunch of strangers in a chat room only somewhat aware of each others’ existence outside of the core group. We would restrict invites to only officers or at least a tier as high as DedicatedMembers. —The officer system. Currently, there are more than half a dozen ranks for assorted levels of Officer, none of which have any significance whatsoever. We would cut out the custom titles for a cleaner, easier to manage system, and Officer rank would actually be an esteemed position rather than a couple of perks given to people on a random basis. And this is an extremely touchy subject, but it needs to be addressed: Your attitude and behavior as leader is crucial to the longevity of the free company. Most of the time you are pretty laid-back and fun to be around, but numerous times you’ve lashed out immaturely at people, breaking trust and respect built up even amongst core members. A leader must command freely-given respect and trust from ALL members. For the most part, it seems the only way to get help for high level content from this FC is to nag incessantly for weeks on end. This is a problem. A leader must actively seek out individuals and find out what they need to progress in the game. If someone needs content done to progress, and they want to get it done, they should have to wait at most a week to have at least an attempt at their content happen. Officers, and the leader especially, must put members’ advancement before their own; rather than abandoning the group the moment their loot drops, resulting in the party dissolving and people not getting their gear or wins. However, the size of the FC makes it difficult to track individuals’ progress as I suggested above. This is another problem of the size and inviting strangers at random: no one new feels a connection, and they rarely even speak, much less ask for help. Once invited to participate, people will open up and feel like part of the group. However, this requires initiative on the part of the leader and officers to greet and check up on new members especially. Otherwise, these people grow up in our FC, find friends elsewhere, and leave to do their endgame content there. This lack of a wholesome community within the FC makes it difficult for anyone to feel any investment and thus loyalty. It’s why it took so long to gather money for the housing; for a while, no one but Talka felt there was anything worth investing their personal funds into. The housing itself was handled poorly; instead of uniting us like intended, there was no plan going into it, and chaos ensued, with people’s feelings and contributions ignored. Thus, we feel that even if changes are attempted to be made, the necessary changes run deep enough it would be a better investment to start fresh with a small core, than to try patch up the existing group. We wish you luck in future endeavors, and hope that our explanations make this easier to take rather than suddenly disappearing all at once. Take care.
