Hey friends & family! If you can make the time - TopicsExpress

Hey friends & family! If you can make the time to come out for a FREE lunch with me and my Sertoma friends during the month of June, we have TWO FANTASTIC speakers coming out! Please see our attached newsletter for more details. (My pic is on the front page giving away an award at our last meeting!) THIS Thursday, June 6th, Carver McGriff, former senior pastor at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church AND veteran of WWII D-Day Normandy Invasion will be regaling us with war stories and lessons learned . . . hard to believe this revered “man of the cloth” fought in this battle! (THIS Thursday is the 59th Anniversary date of the invasion.) Carver McGriff says in his book, “Making Sense of Normandy”. . .“My first day in combat was pretty much following the guy in front of me. That night, we moved into a field, and I saw my first dead soldier. Today, I still think of that dead soldier lying there, all alone, uncared for along a nameless road in a country far away from home. Death was the reality of war.” – E. Carver McGriff, U.S. Army; 90th Infantry Division All of my St. Luke’s Singles friends can attest to what a GREAT speaker Dr. Carver McGriff is from his MANY sermons from the pulpit over the years! On Thursday, June 20th, Ken Faulk, Legal Director of ACLU Of Indiana will be asking “Just How Free Is Our Free Speech?” The ACLU of Indiana is an organization dedicated to protecting the freedoms guaranteed to Indiana citizens by the Indiana and United States Constitutions. Ken screens and prosecutes actions in federal and state courts that typically raise federal and state constitutional issues. Ken Faulk is noted for representing John Walker Lindh, 31, a Muslim convert who was charged with supporting terrorists after he was captured by U.S. troops in Afghanistan (and later pleaded guilty to lesser charges). He claims his religious rights are being violated because the federal prison in Terre Haute deprives him of daily group prayer. The Sertoma Club of East Indianapolis meets at noon on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays each month from noon – 1:15ish. We meet at George’s Neighborhood Grill, 6935 Lake Plaza Drive (SE corner of 71st & Binford). When you walk into the front doors of George’s, we are in the room immediately to your right. The buffet opens at noon (the delicious lunch is FREE to our guests!) and the meeting runs from 12:30 – 1:15ish pm. After 20 mins. of introductions and announcements, our speakers are on for 20 mins. or so with time for Q & A afterwards. We have a very inquisitive group of around 30 - mostly business owners and sales people who have a real heart for making a difference in our community and MAKE the time to DO IT . . . I would love for you to meet them and visa versa! Let me know if you can come so I can save you a seat!
