Hey friends, heres the latest update: My surgery was scheduled - TopicsExpress

Hey friends, heres the latest update: My surgery was scheduled for 11:30am yesterday. They finally came to get me at 5:00pm. It was estimated to be a two hour procedure, but was over in one. The incision was predicted to be almost three inches long, but is covered by a fifty-cent-sized-piece of gauze, so it must be considerably shorter than predicted. So, its all good. The doctor wanted to send me home today, but due to the pain, theyve decided to keep me overnight. Im okay with that. Its been great to be in the hands of my medical team, and theyve been dropping by daily to check on me. Dr. Kemmer (my hepatologist), Dr. Leone (transplant surgeon), Dr. Alsina (the surgeon for this procedure), and my new friend Dr. McFadden (hospitalist) have all been great. In closing, heres the best news of all. I had an appointment scheduled yesterday wiith my HepC treatment nurse. Obviously, I had to cancel the appointment, but she called to speak to me. anyway. In that conversation, she told me that I have reached the point Ive been hoping to, and as of last week: THERE IS NO VIRUS DETECTABLE IN MY BLOOD WORK anymore. That does not necessarily mean that I am cured, and I have sixteen more weeks of treatment to complete, but my chances have greatly increased. As of this moment, the pain meds are kicking in and Im about to take a nap, but I really appreciate all of the nice notes Ive received and the support you have all shown me. Have a great weekend! --Dan
