FEMA to Host Public Meeting, Preliminary Findings of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Exercise Announced What: The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Region 9 office today announced that members of the public and the media are invited to attend a public meeting in Oceanside, Calif., where FEMA will present preliminary evaluation findings on the performance of a full-scale exercise at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) in San Diego County. Who: FEMA Region 9 Office When: Friday, October 25, 2013, 11:00 a.m. Where: Oceanside Civic Center / Public Library (Seating is limited) 330 North Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054 Editors Note: Representatives from FEMA will chair the meeting and present the preliminary observations. The public meeting will take place two days after the exercise concludes. Exercise participants include the state of California, the counties of San Diego and Orange, the Inter-jurisdictional Planning Committee, the communities of San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Dana Point, and the Capistrano Unified School District. This exercise allows federal teams to evaluate the ability of the participating county, state and utility officials to protect the health and safety of the public living near SONGS in the event of an incident at the nuclear generating station.FEMA will observe and evaluate the exercise for the State and counties. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) may observe and evaluate the on-site performance of SONGS.
