Hey, guess what? I can now live-blog from the stampface! That counts as something of a technological triumph here in the black hole of cyberspace that is downtown Holt. As I tap, I have Bob Seger for company, having been lent his double live opus Nine Tonight by Tim The Elder. Tim said I could be as rude as I liked, from which I divine that Bob isnt one of Tims sacred cows, but after sampling his live show I have no wish to malign this son of Detroit. Bobs a journeyman rocker, Id say, but this album stands up really well against the ravages of time, and just at this moment Bob has launched into the power ballad Weve Got Tonight - which is as good an example of a maligned musical genre as you could find. Its time for a change now, though, so as the coast is clear, lets dive round from our gilded cage to those album racks and see what we can find.... .....and weve pulled out a plum, as it turns out, in the shape of Climax Chicagos 1971 Harvest album Tightly Knit, which is sounding particularly good on this cold, sunlit morning just a mile or two from the North Norfolk Riviera. Sensibly priced, too, for a lovely UK Harvest copy, at £25. And while were about it, why dont I take the chance to let yall know what other premier blues albums we currently have out in the racks? In no particular order - as they say on Strictly Come Dancing, even when Brucies not in the house - we can offer you: Bessie Smith - The Worlds Greatest Blues Singer - CBS, £10; Robert Cray - Strong Persuader - Polygram, £5; Jimmy Smith - Organ Grinder Swing - Verve, £15; Climax Blues Band - Stamp Album - RCA, £5; Climax Blues Band - 1969/1972 - Harvest Heritage, £10; Bill Broonzy & Sonny Boy Williamson - Big Bill & Sonny Boy - RCA, £30; Jimmy McGriff - At The Apollo - London, £70; Various Artists - Super Duper Blues - Blue Horizon, £15; Various Artists - The Blues Volume 3 - Pye International, £10; Gary Moore - Ballads & Blues 1982-1994 - Virgin, £5; Lavern Baker - Sings Betty Smith - Atlantic, £5; Dr Ks Blues Band - Dr Ks Blues Band - Spark, £100; Climax Chicago Blues Band - A Lot Of Bottle - Harvest, £15; Dave Kelly - Feels Right - Cool King, £5; Pata Negra - Blues De La Frontera - Hannibal, £5; Sonny Boy Williamson - Down & Out Blues - Marble Arch, £10; Canned Heat - Vintage Heat - Pye International, £20; Dirty Blues Band - Stone Dirt - Stateside, £25; Various Artists - The World Of Blues Power - Decca, £5; Bessie Smith - Great Original Performances 1925-1933 - BBC, £5; Fats Waller - Great Original Performances 1927-1934 - BBC, £5; Mahalia Jackson - 24 Greatest Songs - Historia, £5; Pete Condoli - Blues, When Your Lover Has Gone - Golden Guinea, £5; Pat Metheny, The Heath Bros, Dave Brubeck Quartet, BB King - Live In Concert, Kool Jazz, £5; Juke Boy Bonner - The Legacy Of The Blues Vol 5 - Crescendo, £20; Josh White - In Memoriam - Marble Arch, £5; Gary BB Coleman - One Night Stand - Ichiban, £5; Various Artists - R N B Classics - Charly, £5; Snooks Eaglin - New Orleans Street Singer - US Folkways, £40; Peter Finger - Bottleneck Guitar Solos - Sonet, £5; Bill Broonzy, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee - Xtra, £30; Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, JC Burris - Sonny Terrys New Sound - US Folkways, £20; Joe Turner - Life Aint Easy - Pablo, £5; Bessie Smith - The Bessie Smith Story Volume Two - CBS, £10; Pennsylvania Gospel Group - Gospels & Spirituals - Europe, £5; Jimmy Witherspoon - A Spoonful Of Soul - Verve, £15; The Climax Chicago Blues Band - Parlophone, £100; Lonnie Brooks - Hot Shot - Sonet, £5; Smokey Hogg - U Better Watch That Jive - Speciality, £15; Cisco Houston & Woody Guthrie - Ember, £10; Various Artists - Great Blues Recordings Of The 50s & 60s - Cascade, £5; Lil Green - Romance In The Dark - RCA, £5; Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, Little Walter - Superblues - Chess promo, £30; Nellie Lutcher - Two Sides Of - EMI, £5; Robert Cray Band - False Accusations - Demon, £5; Dinah Washington - Spotlight On - Philips, £5; Bessie Smith - The Bessie Smith Story Volume Four - CBS, £10; Albert King, Little Sonny, Freddie Robinson, Little Milton - Blue Monday - RCA, £5.
