Hey guys! I ran into Samuel on the side of the road and had to stop and ask him for some advice. I know nobody in the metro area that owns Volkswagens, and Im trying to find a machine shop thats knowledgable with VW engines. Im currently rebuilding my 73 supers 1600 engine and I need a place to get the case closely inspected, cleaned, align bored (if needed), bored for larger cylinders and have modifications done for a full-flow oil system. Im also needing like, tons of advice. Im posting on the Samba and Im just getting too many opinions. Im really wanting to install a slightly bigger crankshaft, and Im pretty dead set on a 90.5mm bore, but just not sure about what to do about cams or heads. Im not really wanting to mess around with cams, but Im thinking about some ported Mofoco heads with larger valves. Im also wanting to run dual carbs. Ratio rockers? I also need some help calculating deck hight and such to get my compression ratios right, I dont want to have to use the copper spacers if I dont have to (this is something the machine shop would check/could for me, right?). Anyway, I just have lots of questions and Id totally be willing to buy someone knowledgeable with engine upgrades lunch or something just to sit down with a laptop and make some hard decisions. I need to get my baby back on the road! Im feeling pretty confident doing the actual rebuild, following the instructions in the Tom Wilson book, but as far as picking parts out and buying them, Im totally at a loss. Thanks guys!
