Hey guys! Lots of stuff to tell you all, so please read this. 1) At the editorial meeting on Thursday, we proposed that whoever was willing would be given the opportunity to put together one page each for the next issue of figment. All pages have been taken now, so for those of you who volunteered, heres a list of the fonts/font colours, etc. that youll need to use. - Font for headings: Pieces of Eight (which should be downloaded from here: dafont/search.php?q=pieces+of+eight) - Font for body text: Sylfaen (can be found on Publisher/Microsoft word) - Font colour for headings and body text: Go to more colours on the colours button on Microsoft Word/Publisher then click on the custom tab and adjust the numbers in Red, Green and Blue sections to the following numbers in this order: 10, 20 and 78. ** Some pages will require a lighter colour for the font...if this is the case, use white where possible, or a lighter version of the blue that will be used for the majority of the text. - Page background colour: cream. (I dont think the exact shade has been decided yet, so Ill have to get back to you guys on that!) -Please send the pages in the format you edit it in, i.e. Word or Publisher (NOT PDF). - If youre stuck for ideas on how to present your page, look on issuu for inspiration! **Remember to source images and to look on fb group for any links to flickr that have been provided by other members of the society...and check that its okay to use their images if youre interested in doing so. Dont use random images from the internet without the permission of the owner. **You do not necessarily need to fill the entire page if the image is particularly striking and the text you have to work with is quite short. DEADLINE FOR INDIVIDUAL PAGES: 1st April 2014. (This coming Tuesday). 2) Were launching a blog instead of a website on the 3rd of April. This will be used for longer pieces as well as pieces that were not put into this issue. As with the magazine, if anyone is interested in editing individual posts for some of the pieces that will be featured on the blog, please let us know! 3) Were putting on a fundraising event for the society in celebration of the latest issue of Figment as well as the launch of the blog. It will most likely be held in Keynes Lecture Theatre 5 (tbc) on the 4th April (a week from today). Well be screening a movie and therell be pizza...so keep the evening free if you can...and let your friends know! Entry to the event is going to be £5 (which is pretty reasonable for din dins and a movie). And we have yet to decide on a film to screen, so Ill make a post over the weekend and you guys can suggest films there. Someone mentioned The Great Gatsby (2013 version) the other day, so thats worth considering... 4) Please remember to sign up for tickets to the London Book Fair if you want to go. (see Sophies link on the fb group). Its free! Were suggesting that (because a lot of us have deadlines) those of us who are keen, should go for one day as opposed to three (unless you have time, then by all means go to all three days) on the 9th of April. So once again, sign up if youre interested and let us know if youre planning on going on the Facebook group page, through email or at the general meeting on Monday. 5)Finally, please come along to the general meeting on Monday at which all of this will be explained in more detail!
