Hey guys and girl, dont let anyone tell you that this was not a successful event. True, we had about half the numbers of last year, but it was on a work day. What we didnt get in number of participants though, we did make up for in exposure to the general public. We literally had someone who was just passing through and knew nothing about Monsanto, but decided to join us for our rally. Two school bus loads of high school kids walked past us before and after our march. Even if just one kid decides to go Google Monsanto, then weve won a small battle. Hell, one kid won over out of 2 school bus loads of kids is better odds than what our group would probably see with the general public! We decided, for more reasons than just the numbers, that we would move next years event to Saturday. I had decided that even before today, but once youre so far into planning, its hard to change course. The problem, however, is not so much the date but the place. After we discussed it a bit, we decided that there is nothing at the Capitol Building for us. Very few of our strategies really involve our legislators anyway...so why lobby there? There s always the possibility of doing it at the farmers market, but there may be better options. Either way, it was worth a shot to see who would come out, and we got to do some good networking and plotting. You know, a rally isnt gonna save us...so no one give much merit to that. Ill be honest, we didnt beat the streets like we did last year; but if youre not gonna get your activists out for a rally on a work day, do you really think youll get the general public? I honestly, as an organizer, was glad to see who is willing and able to come out during the work week. This doesnt take away from the people who didnt come out, but just meeting this new group of folks who were more than happy and able to come out today was good to see! But yea...its just a rally, people...haha. It will be the things the group discussed today...food sovereignty city ordinances, GMO labeling, educating the public, living it and talking it, talking it and living it...it will be these things that bring about success. AND ORGANIZING! Not just an event...but organizing political actions...and movement. We can all start planning now for next years MAM, beginning with finding a new location...lol. Also, Im more than happy to hold some organizers training to get folks up to speed and ready for action. I want all of you to know that you are awesome, regardless if you were there or not. Activism is about being the change you want to see in the world and we are ALL doing that. Being the change is what ultimately changes the general public, so keep on keeping on, yall! Im looking forward to the next one already!
