Hey guys, help me finish this letter to the city council: this is what I have so far: To the City of Caldwell Council Members: I would like to address a situation in Caldwell that seems to be overlooked a lot. The situation is semi truck parking in Caldwell. Currently on the record of codes in Caldwell there is no semi truck and trailer parking in residential areas of the city. I can understand the no trailers part. As for semis, most semis are at least 27 feet long. It is my understanding that a lot of Recreational vehicles are also that long or longer. We were told by the Caldwell Police Department that no semi can be parked on the street that is longer than 26 feet long. There are a lot of truck drivers that live in the city of Caldwell. These drivers have terminals hundreds or thousands of miles away from home. Trucks bring everything from lumber to food to electronics to supply America. Why would our city want to be so truck unfriendly? It is a proven fact that there is a truck parking shortage here in the northwest. If truckers dont get to a truck stop early in the day, there is no parking for them to rest and take their mandated breaks. There are only two truck stops in Caldwell. The Sage Cafe and Truck Stop and the Flying J. The Sage truck stop will not let drivers park there if they do not get fuel there. If you park there without getting fuel they will tell you to leave. The flying J fills up fast and if you dont get there in a timely manner you wont have a place to park. Where are drivers supposed to park who live here but their terminals are too far to drive home? The next option is going to Nampa to the Shell station where it is a pay to park, which is fine for most drivers who are willing to pay but a driver was just stabbed in the chest there a few weeks ago. The other option is for drivers traveling west to go to Ontario or drivers traveling east to go to Boise. Why doesnt the city of Caldwell want a drivers money? If there is no place to park our semis then there will be no revenue. Truckers spend alot of money out on the road and at home...did you know that a shower at most truck stops average around $12.00? When truckers come home they spend money to restock the truck, supplies and parts for the trucks.
