Hey guys, your JCR had a meeting today and heres a summary of what was discussed earlier today to get you guys all on the same level as us: In terms of the petition that is going viral on the official halls page, we talked to its admin and we agreed that free laundry would not be enough compensation for the problems the residents have experienced whilst at Halls and that it would not be a feasible idea. Instead we agreed to amend what the petition is asking for; we will ask for a reimbursement from our rent to make up for the facilities we expected would be present when we moved in (gym, convenience store, learning space). We are in essence paying for these services at this moment in time which is unfair as they do not exist at the moment. There have also been frequent complaints about things such as sudden power outages, water leaks and inefficient heating. These should also be relayed to the Residences team to get these issues sorted out. Another point that was raised is about the U2 bus service, we have all seen the problems it has with the amount of people who use the service. With students from Mayflower, Liberty Point and Archers Road all using this line, it would be much more convenient if we were provided by either double-decker buses or more frequent buses during peak times, the result of neither of these being in place has led to lots of people being late for lectures due to buses not letting any more people onto them. Our President has contacted the Uni-link service to try and resolve these problems. There was the point of in essence renovating Block As common room as it is very bare and almost never used - if entertainment was added such as ping pong/snooker tables or even speakers were added then they would be used much more and would perfect for things such as pre drinks. Another use for the common rooms would be showing sports matches (getting sky sports subscriptions) or even movie nights, but even if we manage to obtain these, more furniture would definitely be required let it be things such as sofas to bean bags. About the Mayflower Christmas Party we have thought about some of the clubs in Bedford Place, as going to a large place can lead to a failure if many people dont turn up such as the Popworld incident during freshers (about 20 people turned up!) That was pretty much what was covered in the meeting, we should next have one when this petition to do with rent gets more attention and a majority of Mayflower residents signing it.
