Hey remember years ago when a bunch of folks thought we could send some kind of message to oil companies by not buying gas on a particular day? That was pretty silly for a lot of reasons, the most ridiculous of which was the fact that Big Oil doesnt care what day you buy gas on. As long as you buy it. (And consume items manufactured and distributed using it.) I doubt any of yall are the type to shop on Black Friday (or, shame on you, Black Thursday,) but remember that in this capitalist society your economic power is some of the most important power you have. Black communities are asking you to boycott Black Friday and that doesnt mean you get to skip the doorbusters and buy all that same crap next week. It certainly doesnt mean you get to buy it online! Pay attention to where your money goes. This year, seek out Black-owned businesses for your holiday spending (or! consume less, and contribute that money directly to the organizations supporting Black communities in Ferguson and elsewhere!) I dont know if this app is any good, but give it a shot. Next time you reach for Yelp, check this first. aroundthewayapp/
