Hey teacher-types: I am teaching Econ this semester, and so far its going ok in terms of trying to give my students an actual foundation in the espoused ideals of capitalism before I encourage them to tear the system down :). However, I would love: a) some lessons/readings around CAPITALISM VS. SOCIALISM (like already edited for English language learner type readings). Simulations, film clips, etc. would also be good, but would need to be not totally dependent on understanding the historical context (eg, I have taught communism through the history of Mao and China, but dont have time to do that in this semester, so I need materials that get at the concepts without you having to understand much about the historical/social context). b) some lessons (complete with materials) about PERSONAL BUDGETING AND FUTURE BUDGET PLANNING. All Ive been able to find on this is either stuff thats too basic or too sophisticated. Im teaching seniors, many of whom are English language learners, so sophisticated concepts but accessible materials is ideal.
