Hey there - Im new to the group, but not new to BSCR. I was diagnosed in late August 2011 at Shiley in San Diego, after almost a year of trying to figure it out. I had the diagnosis confirmed with Dr. Foster at MERSI in September 2011. I did steroid drops, interocular injections, and one round of prednisone while trying to figure out what was up with my eyes. Dr. Foster guides my treatment plan now and I go to MERSI every 3-6 months for testing and treatment adjustments. Six months when things are going well and three months when the news hasnt been great. (Im at six months now!) I started on CellCept and cyclosporine and that worked well until it didnt. I am still on CellCept - 2 gram a day - and started Remicade in May 2012. I get my infusions locally every 7 weeks. I am not in remission yet, but Im stable. Dr. Foster describes my BSCR as very persistent. There is still some minor vasculitis seen with the FA, especially in my left eye. I do not have any active inflammation in my vitreous. Its a long road and I feel lucky that Ive been able to halt the progression thus far and that my visual acuity isnt terrible. I just found out that I carry the gene for celiac (HLA DQ2.5 homozygous) and while I dont have celiac right now, my functional med doc thinks its highly likely theres some interplay with gluten and my development of BSCR. Both BSCR and celiac are mediated by IL 17. (Im not sure if its significant - my functional med doc just found that similarity and emailed me about it). Hey - if getting rid of gluten keeps my gut healthy and possibly helps throw this thing into drug-free remission, Ill happily do it. I see Dr. Foster again in late May and at that time will have 4.5 months of gluten-free under my belt. It will be interesting to see if it changes anything or not. *Fingers crossed!*
