Hey there.....Id just like to thank everyone for the well wishes and prayers sent my way these last five days or so. They said I did pretty well, that I was able to tolerate the max dose of the ketamine without any untoward sides effects on the liver, kidneys, or cardiac function. And while I did have some pretty good hallucinations (I believe I was in Ibiza and South Beach all in a matter of 48 hours....which totally sounds like me....lol) they werent violent and for the most part controlled with versed, and dilauded drips. They ended up having to max me out on the versed because I did try to to pull out the central line, and foley on days 2 and 3...or 1 and 2 cant remember....(thanks Mary Ann K. Melville for your assistance with that and apparently keeping my hands away from my neck and other areas. While I dont remember it too much, I was filled in quite nicely. LOL) By day 3 I had totally dislodged the epidural and that had to be removed so the ketamine was moved to the central line since that was my only access after that. Yay! Go me! I never said I make things easy! I did have a pain breakthrough one night and Ive got to say that it felt amazing NOT to feel pain and while Dr. Richman keeps stressing that I be realistic, I probably wont know a pain-free life again, it was nice to have that kind of relief...even if for a little while. Ive still got a long road ahead and Dr. Richman was very clear about the importance of starting the boosters as soon as Im ready...preferably within the next 3 weeks or so, but it all depends on how Im feeling. We wont get a good grasp on where my pain levels will even out for another few weeks and its possible that Ill need another inpatient admission or few somewhere down the line but were hopeful that with the outpatient boosters, well be able to keep those at bay for a while...hopefully a long while if I have anything to say about it. The price tag is ridiculous! Ill be pretty sleepy for the next several days while the ketamine is still in my system, and Ill be on ativan every 8 hours to help with the residual flashbacks and hallucinations as well as clonidine in case there are any blood pressure spikes or heart rate issues. I know I talked/texted with some of you while I was in the hospital but honestly, there is not much I remember over the last 5 days. I do know I had quite the stutter going on and Im sure I rocked that pirate patch like no other. LOL Pictures have helped greatly though and I am incredibly thankful to Mary Ann, Beth Wallace Barton, Vincenzo Cisternino, my mom, and others who offered their support, comfort, guidance, and strength. Mare was amazing with the updates and made herself available to my entire family for moral support, medical knowledge, and all around friendship....I cant thank her enough. Im especially grateful to those of you who slept in the chair next to my bed each night. Now THATS dedication and commitment! I hear it wasnt very comfortable and was quite chilly but that the sunrise over the East River was quite impressive!! Theres nothing like friends and family, near and far, to get you through the tough times. I look forward to returning the favor when I can. In the meantime, if you get to the Jersey Shore, feel free to pop in. Company is always welcomed!! Ive got some amazing people in my life and I couldnt be more grateful. :-) PS...Theresa McCann and Lisa Vecchione.....lets compare notes soon!!
