Hey there foodies! Hope everyone had a great Saturday! I promised in an earlier post that I would have the review of one of our new favorite spots up today, so here it is: A Place to Eat! Wednesday, we finally made it to A Place to Eat, after much urging on by our fan-base, for a quick lunch stop. This little venue is nestled right off of National Highway, directly next door to the mattress store on the way to Frostburg; the building has the sign Tacos on it as you drive up close to it. Upon getting out of the car, you can smell the fabulous meats cooking on the grill/smoker. Im not going to lie, the smell of the meats alone was enough to hypnotize me and make me walk in. Theres really not much to meet expectation when you walk in, however, and the best way I can describe the restaurant as a whole is a nook. Very little seating and decor set the tempo, to me at least, that this is not the place to come for a formal sit-down dinner. I dont necessarily view this as a bad thing, though, and quite enjoy the atmosphere, or lack of. Kind service, the amazing smells, along with conversation with the employee(s) does more justice than needed for any lack of atmosphere the restaurant itself may have. While we were taking a look at the menu, which is very short and to the point I might add, the very nice and informative lady told us she had to check the grill. I was completely sold at that point. We eventually decided on the Taco Sampler. This menu item comes with 4 tacos and a side item. We chose the plainly named Rice side, which turned out to be not plain at all. Whole grain rice infused with caramelized onions and green peppers made this little side dish a true treat. I was simply blown away with the quality and flavor of the rice, so much so that I was almost jumping out of my skin to try the tacos! For our tacos, we ordered a single taco of each the pork, brisket, chicken, and steak variety in order to try as many flavors as we could. Each taco came with a heaping serving of the specific meat, cheese, and a fresh tortilla. The Taco Sampler comes in at $14.00, but you can opt to just buy individual tacos for a mere $3.50, plus some if you want premium toppings. Due to the several different meats we chose, I will be grading each taco separately: Brisket--10/10: The brisket was above and beyond. Truly. I have had a good bit of brisket in many different places and this was by far the best. Paired with the almost divine tortilla and cheese, this taco was simply the best, hands down. The brisket was rich, unbelievably succulent, and melt in your mouth, not to mention flavorful and juicy. As of writing this, I am asking myself why Im not driving there right now to buy one. Pork--10/10: Pretty much exactly the same as above. The meat was tender, melt in your mouth, juicy, and exploding with flavor. Also probably the overall best pork Ive ever eaten. I was worried this taco wouldnt be very appeasing, as pork is one of my least favorite meats, but whatever they have done to it here should be a secret safeguarded with their lives. Chicken--9/10: The chicken was also excellent, though not as good as the above two. It was expertly cooked and had an unfamiliar seasoning to it, though not bad, quite the opposite, actually. I really enjoyed the change of texture as opposed to the richness of the two previous tacos. Steak--7.5/10: The steak taco was pretty good but very underwhelming, in my opinion, to the other three. I found it bland and a bit too chewy for my liking. It wasnt nearly as juicy as the other meats but was still quite good and still the best steak taco Ive personally ever eaten. The meat wasnt melt in your mouth, which maybe I was spoiled from by the brisket and pork. The guacamole served with the tacos was uncannily fresh and delicious. So much so that FC3 ate the guacamole, plain, with a fork after all of the tacos were devoured. We left A Place to Eat that afternoon with our bellies full of warm, delicious meats and a feeling of regret, even guilt, that we have not been there until now. This is a powerful little place serving up mighty and astonishingly good authentic tacos. A Place to Eat is topnotch for our area and has been awarded our first ever Must Eat Location award. Congratulations A Place to Eat and KEEP EM COMING! FC1
