Hey there people, the folks from the Swamp Line 9 campaign earlier this summer could really use your help right now. Please try to get something out in the mail before Wednesday November the 6th. Dear Fellow Swampers, Friends & Allies, Those of us facing criminal charges from Swamp Line 9 are hoping for a little bit of your help! Weve had a really hard time navigating the court system, from the very beginning of our court process. Each step of the way - first appearances, obtaining full disclosure (STILL in the works!) and negotiating with the crown - has been an uphill battle. The system is not made for those of us wishing to advocate for ourselves, or our land! (Luckily weve had some guidance from a few amazing lawyers & soon to-be lawyers!) At this point in time were trying to enter into negotiations with the crown so that a couple of our group members may avoid a criminal record (for school, and careers they are well into preparing for). While a diversion program is usually offered for first-time offenders on minor charges (such as mischief under, like ours) the Crown has so far refused to offer them to the group, and doesnt seem very willing to move off the probation and conditions they are seeking (with a criminal record). Yesterday they finally agreed to sit down with us and consider some of our submissions over the next two weeks, but we also fear this was said just to ease the process along. We are hoping that an outpouring of support from the community might soften them up a little. We are hoping that all of you - and your friends, families, networks etc. - might be willing to sit down and write up a quick letter in support of the Swamp Line 9 action at Westover. They dont have to be personal character references - in fact it will be best if its in support of the action, its intentions and everyone there instead of just a few of us.
