He’s been described as “hypocritical”, a “fraud”, and a “failure as a leader”. Local 10 bombard students at the church’s school and Good Morning America openly discussed the ongoing situation. Thousands of people watched. Remember in biology whenever experiments were done everyone would observe as the research was carefully shadowed to ensure perfection? That’s exactly what occurred here. Local 10 and GMA never broadcasted his teachings; they never broadcasted an update on how many people had received Jesus as their Lord and Savior over the weekend. People never saw that. Do you want to know the truth about who Pastor Bob really is? Pastor Bob is the man who personally dedicated me as a child. Pastor Bob is the man who personally baptized my mother. Pastor Bob is the man who would stop anything he was doing to have a conversation with you, no matter how busy he was. Pastor Bob was a father figure to every elementary, middle, and high school student that ever walked through Calvary Chapel’s doors. Pastor Bob is now the man behind the headlines. His life has been plastered over national television for everyone to see. That’s right. One mistake and everyone has to know. People are claiming he acted “better than everyone” or “holier than others”, when in fact if you actually attended his services you would know he portrayed himself as anything but that. He talked about his past mistakes, but also how God brought him through it. Personally, through all of this my respect for Pastor Bob has grown immensely. To confess a sin in front of thousands and step down from a position he’s fulfilled for years is beyond anything any of us would be capable of doing. He didn’t have to disclose anything to anyone. It could have been his little secret. He could have lied to the church and the media. But he chose not to. We are human. Do you know what humans are? We are perfectly imperfect organisms on one colossal planet floating in the middle of outer space. Humans make mistakes. Every single one of us do. No matter how self-righteous and sanctimonious many may act we are essentially a ton of organs walking around. Only one perfect man stepped foot on this earth, Jesus Christ. Pastor Bob is not Jesus, he is human. To disrespect and degrade the memory of someone who’s helped thousands of people is beyond discourteous it is vulgar. No matter where God leads Pastor Bob today, tomorrow, or in the next 5 years he will always be our beloved pastor. His memory will not be tarnished with false allegations and ill-mannered comments. He’s helped bring thousands of individuals to Christ and through this confusion, has made our church stronger. This situation has given hope to many students just like me.
