He would take anti-inflammatory meds like Voltaren, Naproxen, etc. and the swelling (usually his feet – sole, heel, ankles) would eventually go away. He finally decided to have it checked and that’s the time we found out that the swelling were actually gout attacks caused by a relatively high uric acid count – blood tests done 22 July 2012 (in photo) showed a uric acid count of 9.2 mg/dl versus the normal range of between 3.4 -7 mg/dl. He was prescribed with Zyloric 300mg (Allopurinol, to lower the uric acid count) tablets which he took for 3 months and the gout attacks became less frequent. 3 months after he stopped taking Zyloric, he started having gout attacks again and the pain would be so severe there were days he could not walk and would be on crutches just to get around the house. Blood test done 12 January 2014 (in photo) showed a uric acid count of 11.2 mg/dl versus the normal range of between 3.4 -7 mg/dl – the uric acid was back with a vengeance! He went back to taking Zyloric 300mg again for 3 months, however, he would still experience gout attacks and this time, he complained that the swelling would not totally go away and would just recede from extremely painful to tolerable to extremely painful again that it caused him to be on sick leave and on crutches more often. Until my mother came to Doha last May and brought with her a pack of UA-Block, a herbal supplement from HK which she said, cured my father and my grandmother’s (among others in their family) uric acid problems/gout attacks. My husband was skeptical at first but started taking them anyway, 2 capsules/day on the first week (he had a bad case of gout attack that week) and went down to 1 capsule/day after the first week (the gout attack/swelling had receded after the first week). He did not undergo any treatment or took any other medicine during this time except UA-Block…so I guess it worked!
