Hi All...I dont usually post things like this but my friend Shayne, who is a fantastic young man, is in need of some financial support to fund the trips to his power chair soccer tournaments. I am a dragon boater myself and can tell you how expensive it is to be a part of a sport, especially when you have a disability and specialized equipment is necessary. From Shayne: Hello everyone, For those who arent aware of who I am, my name is Shayne De Wildt and I am faced with Cerebral Palsy. This requires me to use a power wheelchair. I have been participating in power wheelchair soccer for about 8 or 9 years now and have been going on trips to play in national and international competitions. Unfortunately, power soccer is not a Paralympic sport, which means that players dont get funding and are expected to raise the funds themselves. As you may know those with disabilities dont always have the chance to play a sport, and an even smaller chance of ever competing on an international level. I am living on my own now, which I am so happy about but find myself with even less money for soccer trips. As much as I love traveling, playing on a team, and being competitive, in my current situation I wont be able to afford the upcoming tournaments. There are four tournaments planned this year alone- players are required to attend for the opportunity of being selected for the World Cup in 2016. Im hoping to fundraise $4,000-$5,000 and am asking for your financial support. I have attached a Greater Vancouver Electric Wheelchair Sports Society (GVEWSS) brochure of the sport and a sponsorship package for more information about the sport.
