Hi Aly. I wanted to write and give you the latest on Hank and to - TopicsExpress

Hi Aly. I wanted to write and give you the latest on Hank and to thank you again for all of your help with him. As I told you when we met, I have worked with several trainers, private and group, and had very little success getting positive results with Hanks reactive and aggressive behavior. Hank was kicked out of training classes, opened the eyes of instructors where I received comments such as Wow with regard to his behavior, only for them to tell me he is just what he is and there may be no changing him. Their comments added to my fear of taking Hank out in public, fearing I couldnt handle his lunging and twisting and barking. I tried for a good 4 years to rise to the challenge but I finally admitted defeat and decided he would only be a backyard dog and wouldnt be able to out places with us and our other dogs. But, then I met you. Again, hope blossomed and I jumped at the opportunity for Hank to be the awesome dog I knew and wanted him to be. And, I have not been disappointed. Your suggestion to put Hank into your Immersion Program of the Four Pillars of Pack Leadership was a great choice as not only did Hank get to learn but I also learned, which was critical. The first time we met with Hank and I took his leash, I remember I could barely breathe. But, I also saw there was nothing for me to be so afraid of - Hank was doing fantastic in a very short time - I think it was within 30 minutes there was already great progress. What? 30 minutes? However, I was still holding on to the old baggage and it took me some time to let go of that. I remember the first time I took Hank out for a walk by myself (once we had started your training), it was amazingly successful - like day and night difference from any walks we had taken in the past- ever! So then, I started seeing that I could apply what I had learned and was doing with Hank, on my other dogs - who all desperately needed a lot of structure and balance. I knew life in my house with my 4 dogs was chaotic but I didnt know how much so until I saw another example of how it could look when I saw your house and all of the dogs there. And, Ive now been doing it, and it is all doable. I will have to admit there were things I dreaded doing (crating) and things I just didnt want to do (having each dogs drag a leash around). And, I cant really say WHY I resisted those things, but I did. However, once I started doing them, I wondered what took me so long. Although there is still more work to be done and I am anxious to continue seeing more success, the chaos in my house has definitely decreased and I only look for that to get even better! Looking forward to continuing success with my four legged kids!- Sharan Kelly (Santa Maria)
