Hi Bakewell, I’m sure most of you already know me from either fresher’s, IMS events, Action projects or other Bakewell run events, but for those who don’t, I will be running to be your next Action Rep! Some people have asked, why now? Why didn’t you run for Action in your first year of Bakewell? Although I became heavily involved in Action during my first year, I just wasn’t ready… Shortly after finishing the first year of University, I was selected to go and work at a Disability Camp in America for 3 months over summer, this really opened up my eyes and matured me as a person, I even questioned whether or not I’m going down the right career path. The stories I heard over there were seriously life changing, so there was a guy called Pete out there, he is fully paralysed and in a wheelchair, his only way of communicating was through an electric device that he moved with his vision, anyway, later on that week I found out that Pete was in fact born completely fine, however, his Mum used to inject him with Heroin to stop him from crying, this then changed his life forever! Pete is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever met, he has 3 degrees and communicates with his eyes, Pete and many other campers changed the way I think about things and I have so much passion for helping out and volunteering, giving something back makes me feel good and I think to be Action Rep you need passion for it because it’s essentially you giving up your time for someone else and I have that passion for it! Over Easter I am going to Nepal for 3 weeks to Volunteer with Action, if anyone is interested in this then let me know and I can give you more information as we would love more of you to come along! I proved myself over fresher’s winning the best male fresher helper award and don’t get me wrong, I still will be up for a laugh and a joke because that’s just in my nature, but I’m really passionate about Action and the amazing things we give back to the community, it’s the least they deserve after being overrun by students.
