Hi CMs, I have a query in regards to the school my children - TopicsExpress

Hi CMs, I have a query in regards to the school my children attend. Theyre 10 and 6 and both attend a Primary School in Belconnen. We moved from interstate last year and have been here for almost the full school year, weve experienced a number of problems with bullying from both students AND teachers. Im a mum to THREE boys. I know the ins and outs of how boys operate. Im not naive to think that my boys are 100% innocent any of the time but they know my boundaries, they know when theyre in trouble just as much as they know when Ive got their back. So before you peg me as an overly sensitive my children are angels kind of mum, let me assure you that youre not even close. Without writing a novel of every experience Ive had, Id like to get advice or similar experiences, if any, primarily with this school or similar experiences at other schools in canberra. The two incidents that have infuriated me the most were as follows; My 10 year old was accused of writing a fellow student a note (it read, Dear ..., youre hot!), the teacher pulled three boys out (including my son) of the class and said he believed it was one of the three because they were the only students in the class that would use youre correctly. None of them admitted to it so the teacher threatened that hed go through work books to compare handwriting. The next day at lunch my son was sent to the deputy principal, she sat him down and lectured him on the school values and because he was new to the school she didnt know him well enough to know if he was lying, but she had taught the other two accused since kindergarten so she believed my son to be the liar. He was required to spend the duration of his lunch break in time out. My son is adamant he did not write the letter, and after an intense interrogation I believe him wholeheartedly. The most recent incident involved my 6yr old. He attends kindergarten and was approached by an older student during lunch and was thrown to the ground and repeatedly punched while the bullys friends stood by and laughed. Luckily, my sons friend ran to a teacher and the bully was sent to the principal. I asked if there was any verbal fight before hand or any reason this happened and my son said no. Thats all the information my son knew. I received ZERO contact from the school to explain how an older student has access to the kindergarten playground and why the hell my 6yr olds safety is at risk. Verbal bullying is almost a right of passage for school kids. It should never be tolerated I understand, but it happens and as parents we equip our children with necessary coping mechanisms to hopefully ensure its only ever taken with a grain of salt. BUT... What the hell kind of parent teach their children that its okay to psychically abuse a child, a child their own age is one thing but a kindergartener?!? Thats beyond disgusting and this isnt the first time my boys have been subjected to physical abuse at this school. My husband and I fully intend to have a meeting with the school AND the parents of the bullies but Id like to hear from any other parents that are going through or have any problems with this school. By all means your privacy will be respected. The school administration might not take my concerned family seriously but they cant ignore the power in numbers. Schools can preach zero tolerance but its still running rampant and I for one am not going to stand by and slowly watch the spark for learning slowly disappear from my boys eyes because of other peoples kids. I do apologise as it is quite a long post but this Mumma bear is feeling very defensive and protective. I have worked hard to raise respectful, sweet and sensitive boys that are as boisterous and cheeky at the best of times but they dont ever deserve to be beaten. Thank you for your time.
