Hi Cafe Cruisers A better day is coming! The forecast is for a fine Saturday. So put courage in your veins and air in your tyres and head off to the Waitakeres! “The Waitakeres!?”, you bleat, somewhat pathetically. “You mean those lumpy great mountains on our western horizon? You’re kidding!!”. I kid thee not. I have recently been told of a level, smooth path called Exhibition Dr that was formerly a tramline used in construction of the water supply system, going for some kilometres through bush and providing excellent views. It joins a new bikeable trail called the Beveridge Track that is rated ‘easy’ though the guides concede the last 200m are steep. It ends up at the Visitors Centre where we can get ejikated about the Whytackers. Have look here: regionalparks.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/aratakivisitorcentre/track/Exhibition%20Drive Let’s meet at 10:00 for a 10:30 start at the old filter station where Woodlands Park Rd Meets the Scenic Drive. There is a car park there though a small one (good luck). The path leaves from there. Part B. This may not be a long enough ride for you, so afterwards we may decide to reconvene at The Packing Shed Cafe and cycle the Twin Paths Stream behind Henderson or, if you are in a particularly adventurous what-the-heck, devil-may-care mood we could drive out to Piha, cycle a few of the roads out there and maybe walk up to the Kitekite Falls and/or lounge at the Piha cafe, lying to the other patrons that we’ve just ridden over the Waitakeres to get there. Naomi is away, so text me your intentions (your honourable ones) 021 288 8397. Cheers John
