Hi Canggu expat Community! Yayasan Cinta Bahasa, an Indonesian - TopicsExpress

Hi Canggu expat Community! Yayasan Cinta Bahasa, an Indonesian Language School with 13 teachers in four locations in Bali (Ubud, Sanur, Kuta and Canggu) opened our doors on Jl. Sempol in Pererenan a few months ago, thanks to the support of Susi Johnston, a longtime expat resident who is also fantastically fluent in bahasa Indonesia and really working to make Bali much better than ever. Previous to that, we were teaching for the members of the Canggu Club. Wouldnt it be so great if Canggu was more integrated between foreigners and locals? Or is it better if our cultures stay separated, not able to communicate with one another? But doesnt this just encourage concern, real or speculative, about safety if one cannot understand or speak with ones neighbours? I mean, some people I know in Canggu are always talking about security and safety concerns, but surprisingly learning to speak to an Indonesian person in bahasa Indonesia is low on their list of priorities, even lower than buying security cameras from Ace, putting up barbed wire or broken glass on top of the wall or just spent worrying. Dont they see the irony? Weve had some great Beginner and Intermediate Groups in Canggu, and we would love to see our Beginner Group full every month. Considering how many foreigners are residing in Canggu, we would think this would be easy...
