Hi Crew, as most of you knew I was scheduled to fight at the Eatons Hill Hotel on Valentines Day this year however I had to withdraw on medical grounds. During my pre fight medical examination my doctor heard an echo in my heart and as a result sent me to have an echocardiogram which picked up that I have a mitral valve prolapse. The short end is the valve in the bottom of my heart is not shutting and basically flails in the blood and as a result the bottom of my heart pumps my entire body. This has caused my heart to enlarge. I retired as an amateur in 2009 and as most of my friends know I love fighting and so I decided to come back and have a professional fight. Before this year I hadnt had a simple medical for 5 years and I doubt I would have bothered to anytime soon. I dont give my power away to what could have happened if I didnt decide to fight again because the future hasnt happened yet but it certainly has been one of the better choices Ive made in life and I encourage everyone young or old to have regular check ups. Upon receipt of this news Ive seen specialists and undergone procedures and surgery is a must however I have been putting surgery off to build the Hinterland Sports Store business, keep my gym running and get my athletes ready for the business end of the year. Ive really pushed things to the limit and have been experiencing some pain and discomfort since late July but I knew I had to get through it, at the end of pain is success. So tomorrow I go into pre admission for surgery on Monday. If your ever going to have surgery open heart is probably not the one to do but I have a great team and surgeons who i have confidence in to hack into me. Ill be in intensive care for 2 to 3 days afterwards but my family will keep people updated until I can respond to peoples messages. In my absence Taylen and Tiarna will be running the boxing fitness classes. Both are athletes who have passion for what they do. You will both benefit and enjoy the experience they will bring to the boxing fitness training. Both the 915 am SnC Thursday session and the junior program will be canned until further notice. Club train will be running and a program will be set during my absence. Next Saturdays 7 am boxing fitness class will not be running as the athletes will be away attending a Boxing Australia Development Camp on that weekend. Ill see everyone in a week or maybe a few days knowing me lol and if you thought I was hard task master before, well that was with half a heart look out when Im operating with a full one hahahaha. Ciao Steve
