Hi Everyone, For the 4th year running Im participating in Movember, which for anyone who isnt familiar is a Mens health charity dedicated to raising awareness about prostate and testicular cancer as well as mental health issues. The idea is to grow and fashion a moustache (Mo) during the month of November and seek sponsorship for the terror that transpires on your top lip. There are many reasons why I feel strongly about supporting Movember, particularly their huge efforts in directing the money raised towards targeted and coordinated research to find cures and better treatments for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as very important mental health issues. Many of you might already be aware of the death of my mate Louis Gifford in February this year. Louis was diagnosed with terminal metastatic prostate cancer when he was 54-years old. Louis was an amazing human being and not only was he one of the worlds nicest people he was probably the most important person to ever grace the physiotherapy profession. Louis wasnt just a physio he was also a researcher and internationally published author on the subject of pain. It is my humble opinion (and that of many colleagues) that Louis shifted Physiotherapy out of the dark ages and into a contemporary evidence based era of physiotherapy which has massively benefitted patients all over the world suffering with pain. Anyone who has visited our clinic and chatted to me, Kayleigh or Hazel about their pain will undoubtedly have been exposed to information that Louis Gifford brought into physiotherapy and medicine. He was a truly world class pain scientist and educator! It has been one of my absolute life pleasures and a true honour for me to work with and collaborate with Louis on a number of our joint clinical journal and textbook publications. Cancer can still be a truly devastating disease that robs us of many beautiful and brilliant people. If you would like to help eradicate cancer you might like to support Movember. To support my Movember efforts please log onto the Movember web-site and search for the team called the Celtic Crumb Catchers (yep thats my team). The web-site will guide you through the many options available towards making a donation. Louis youngest son Jake is the captain of the Celtic Crumb Catchers. We would both like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any donation that you make, Best regards, Steve Robson
