Hi Everyone, Yesterday we received some correspondence from Nikki Boyd who is the ALP candidate for Pine Pivers. Please have a read, Nikki & Shane King have attended our fun days, charity days as well as the Waterski Qld fundraiser for our international skiers who are heading off to Florida very soon for the Senior world Titles. Of note they personally donated money at both our charity day and the fundraiser event. Skiers short changed by Local MPs 10 September 2014 The recent announcement by the Newman Government to allow water-skiing to continue on Lake Kurwongbah for only three days during the middle of the week is too little too late and nothing more than a cheap political con job. Shadow Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the LNP and its local MPs had been dragged kicking and screaming to the table and presented a half-hearted attempt to placate local residents. The local Lake Kurwongbah water skiing community and pressure applied by the local Labor candidates has harnessed enormous community support, Mr Pitt said. The Ministers arrogant, something is better than nothing’ strategy essentially asks locals to be thankful for getting anything at all. “Whilst common sense has prevailed and the skiers are not banned completely from the lake this solution denies any week end skiing and rules out most families and working people from ever getting on the lake. Its another example of the LNP failing to listen to the local community. Labor Candidate for Kallangur Shane King said the result was a poor substitute for a commitment to allow the skiers to continue to use the lake as they have done for the past 55 years. The state government’s desperate 11th hour deal to allow skiing on the lake for three days out of seven out proved that the skiing community had been right all along, he said. Shared access between paddle craft and skiers on the lake can continue safely as rowers and skiers have for over 50 years and that SEQwater can be persuaded to negotiate the sharing of the lake between users by the State government. Labor Candidate for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said the lake was big enough for all to share and a zoned area within the lake with all interested parties deciding together would be a far better solution. At least the skiers are still able to use the lake and all credit to the club and their hard work in taking on this short sighted, unfair decision” she said. “The sad fact is that this deal, whilst allowing the skiing community to use the lake as opposed to being banned completely, provides little for the majority of the people who want to ski on the lake. Labor will be fighting to ensure that this important recreational activity that provides enjoyment and healthy exercise for thousands of locals is available seven days a week as it has been for 50 years.”
