Hi, I am Randy’s wife posting on his behalf. He had posted in April that he was facing surgery and requested prayers. I am here to update you. On May 1, Randy had surgery to remove a tumor with ampullary cancer, the surgery was a Whipple procedure(google it, it’s very interesting) which is the same surgery used in a liver transplant. When the surgeon made his incision, he found the gallbladder gang green and removed it. He proceed to remove 1/3 of his stomach (the remaining is up in his chest due to a hyienal hernia) He removed 1/3 of his pancreas and 1/3 of his intestines. During surgery the surgeon determined he had pancreatic cancer but we were to wait for the pathology report. For several reasons, his body went through so much trauma during surgery that the surgeon decided not to repair the hyienal hernia. He spent the night in ICU and was moved to the floor. He did ok on the floor for a couple of days then he started having tacacardia (misspelled for sure). He also went into septic shock and was moved back to ICU and remained in ICU until last Thursday. Meanwhile, the pathology report came back as benign. There were pre-cancer cells but no active cells. This caused the surgeon to question the validity of the original pathology report of ampullary cancer. Therefore, he had those reports revisited. The second pathologist said he would have made the same call because there were pre-cancer cells in the ampulla. Had they not said cancer, we would never have known and it would have become cancer. We believe it was cancer from the beginning and God took the cancer and cast it away as this is what we had prayed for. Anything that could go wrong did. I have never see an individual go through so much and still be with us. He came back from the septic shock only to have the kidneys fail. Dialysis on a regular basis. First, it was 24-7 at his bedside since he was too weak and couldn’t handle the regular dialysis. He is now on regular dialysis daily (except on weekends) at 3 hrs. each trip down to the dialysis department. I never thought I could get so excited about a grown man making urine. However, yesterday he made urine for the first time since week 1. It wasn’t much but it was urine!!! And today, there’s has been a little more. This can only mean the kidneys are starting to function. Another God Granted Miracle…….. The Septic was treated and is gone but fluid pockets began to develop and tube placed to drain them. In one area, the culture came back as VRE which is another form of MRSA. He has been fed from a tube down his throat, into his stomach. However, the hyena hernia cause the tube to move upward and it was not allowing the “residual” to be pumped away from the stomach. It was so hard for the surgeon to get the tube in the first time. Now they had to do it again and use a weighted tube. It’s working. He was also being fed through the vein, that’s over with. He now has just the tube feeding at night and he is capable of eating a soft diet (jello, yogart, pudding, mash potatoes, and liquids). Problem being, he has no appetite and won’t eat. Being in a hospital bed for 39 days now, he has myopathy (Loss of muscle and is unable to stand, lift his arms, ect. He is having PT and his sister and I work with him doing exercises. I spent the first 27 days and nights with him and had to return to work. His sister Linda, has been coming and sitting with him during the week days and a few over nights then I return on the weekend. I am thankful she wants to do this for him. The hospital staff has been wonderful and he is starting to show improvements. We know the end of the story and it has a happy ending. With the continued blessings from God, Randy will fully recover and God will receive the Glory and everyone will be “happy, happy, happy.” Please continue to keep him in your prayers and he continues this lengthy journey to recovery. I will try to keep you updated.
