Hi, I am a 27 year old African-American female. And I currently reside in GA. I am a nursing student and a mother of one. I relocated to Georgia in 2011 to take care of my mother who is terminally ill. I am active in my community as well as church. I work two jobs. The second job I recently took on just to occupy my time and my break from school; this was a fourth income for me. Well late night September 07, 2014 after arriving home from work I began my normal bedtime rountine. Except this night would not turn out like most nights this night I would spend the night in jail.. for a crime that I did not commit. 11Pm or so I overheard a disturbance on my property. The distraction I heard was my screen door being opened with force. Alarmed I then got up and watched as whoever was at my door was trying to make their way in. After watching someone attempting to enter my home as I watched the door knob twist and turned there was a very loud knock on my door. I seen it was an officer that had been dispatched to my residence. I greeted the officer who starts demanding that I hand over an alledge stolen phone. I was calm trying to assure the officer that there had to be a misunderstanding that the only phone that was in my posession was mines. The officer starts accusing me of taking a phone from a younger caucasian guy at work. He instructed me to hand over the phone or that he would return with a warrant to arrest me. He left and I was frantic. I called the police station but couldnt get ahold of anyone that time of night I also called McDonalds and asked to speak to the young man but I was told that they were busy. The manager that answered did however say to me she had no part in calling law enforcement another manager insisted that my co-worker did after he complain of his phone being missing. 10 mins later the officer returned entering my home saying he had come back to arrest me. I wasnt read my rights, presented with the said warrant nor was I explained my charges being held against me. Even though I already had my hands behind my back as instructed for some reason he continue to yell for me to do so repeatedly which the behavior I observed from him left me confused and afraid. I profess my innoncence and asked the officer to go take a look at the camera at my place of work and he would see that I did not take anything that did not belong to me. I asked him what about my son if he took me to jail that my baby would have been left in the middle of the night unsupervised and my disabled mother without care. I left my home afraid and confuse as I was being pushed down my steps. My arms were already cuffed yet he had my arm twisted as he lead the way by dragging me to the squad car. By then the other officer even assisted after I pleaded with the first officer to stop because he was hurting my arm. My arresting officer slammed me into the patrol car as a result he gave me a blow to the back of the head on his vehicle upon me entering. I was taken to jail where I asked to file a complaint and was denied. I asked to see a nurse I was also denied, twice. They said I wouldnt receive any medical attention until at least the next day because a nurse was unavailable. I did however got pictures taken during booking of my bruises on my wrist. And the mark on my arm. I was photographed, finger printed. I had to strip down and was search and examined. I was given an inmate jumpsuit. Yet I was place in a concrete cell with not even a bed. I was told I was being held without a bond. When the morning came I was transfered in a cell with inmates. About 7:30 am I heard my name announce and was told my charges had been cleared because the stolen phone had been recovered in the owners possesion. I was placed in an intergation room before I could leave. Two officers asked me if I wanted to go because if I did not comply with them that new charges could be brought against me. I didnt get to talk. They instructed me not to or they consider that non complience and they would keep me. I asked to file a complaint once more before leaving and was denied. The officers suggested that I go after my accuser and not them. I got no apology or sympathy. I left the Sheriffs office on foot feeling belittled. I left hurt emotionally and physically. I admitted myself to the hospital where an X-ray was performed on my bruised armed. I learned that the officer had sprained my arm by using excessive force. I filed a complaint. Please advise me on legal actions that I need to take your fans suggestions are welcome too. Please send prayers up for me too. Ive been a nervous wreck. I am hurting Zane.. emotionally & physically but they couldnt break my spirit. MY RESPONSE: You came to the right place. Send me ALL THE INFORMATION and I will call the news myself. This is the kind of human interest story that every media outlet in your town will be all over. If you live in Atlanta, its a wrap. They were out of pocket and I am glad you filed a complaint and went to the hospital. Their behavior was despicable and not only do you need to sue the police department, you need to sue the manager at McDonalds that suggested that coworker call the police, as well as the coworker himself. This is ridiculous and should not be tolerated. Email me back with the information, your contact information, and I will call the press by close of business today.
