Hi I hope everyones Spring Break is going well! Today WVU - TopicsExpress

Hi I hope everyones Spring Break is going well! Today WVU students were sent an email from VP Ken Gray detailing WVUs new policy regarding health insurance. Beginning Fall semester, all students taking 6 or more credit hours are REQUIRED to have qualifying health insurance. Any student unable to provide proof of insurance by August 8th will be automatically signed up and billed for insurance through WVUs partner Aetna Insurance. In the email Mr. Gray reasons that the University, in its desire for students to be happy, healthy, and productive, is merely trying to protect us from high, unexpected healthcare costs. I find his reasoning for forced health insurance both inadequate and insulting. In order to pay for this insurance, I will have to work approximately 5-6 extra hours each week. For someone who already must work full-time in order to pay for bills and tuition, this is no small matter. If one were to consider the health insurance plan through Aetna part of our cost of tuition, it amounts to about a 20% increase in tuition. This is an increase which I can not afford, and as a result I may have to DROP OUT OF SCHOOL. I ask you all to stand with me against this unjust policy. Even the federal government is allowing citizens to pay a small (for now) fine rather than obtain qualifying insurance. WVU students are offered no such alternative. Please, help me to spread the word that students should not be forced to have qualifying insurance in order to attend school.
