Hi, I hope you don’t mind but I thought I would post this on the main page as well as the previous thread it was on. I’ve taken the liberty of pulling together what I see as the main issues & challenges facing Darlington Town Centre businesses. I believe a small number of people could get together with the appropriate representatives from the Council to discuss and resolve these issues, via an action plan, in an open and civil manner. As with anything, not everyone can be pleased all of the time, but I think a negotiated, collective problem solving approach is preferable to a conflict. Im sure there are a whole load more issues but at some point it would start to become like boiling the ocean. It was mentioned earlier that a small group could be formed made up of a combination of Traders, Residents, BID and Councillors to negotiate a win/win solution for the town-centre. Here are what I see as the main challenges: • The “WOW” Factor. “How can we encourage more visitors to Darlington?” (Town Centre Attractions, Hospitality, Heritage, Environment, Music, Museums, Art, Dining, Culture, Green Spaces, Cinema Complex etc.) • Town Centre Car Parking. Including Strategy, pricing, loading, enforcement. • Town Pedestrianisation. Impact to businesses and options. • Working with Darlington BID. Strategy and Leadership. • Town-centre & Fringe developments – Understanding “The TCF Masterplan”. • Public Safety & anti-social behaviour. • Bus access, routes and Bus Stop locations. • Public Conveniences. Adequacy, locations & signage.
